The adsorption of serum proteins on foreign solids leads to the formation of a protein layer (also known as biomolecular corona), which determines the biological identity of the material and is of key importance for the function of its surface [1]. It is well-known that the formed protein layer significantly affects the physicochemical activities (e.g., formation of hydroxyapatite) and controls the biological behaviour (e.g., attachment, proliferation and migration of cells) of biomaterials [2,3]. Hence, the understanding and control of interactions between proteins and biomaterials is of crucial importance for any progress in biomedical applications and/or design of advanced biomedical devices. The current project is focused on the interaction of bioreactive surfaces with proteins. The main work comprises a comprehensive composition- and size-dependent material synthesis and multidisciplinary investigations of protein-surface interactions.
